Yes it is official since 9/10/2010! We are now officially live after being blessed by the Fire Marhsall and Building Inspector We can now legally operate our new datacenter and open our door to our customers. As of today, we have around 200 servers and equipments already live in our new datacenter.

Following are the detailed updates of what had happened ever since our last big blog update. We will put it in sections and bullet points for easy reading.

DATACENTER FLOOR CONSTRUCTION

• Tearing of walls and core drilling has been completed. We do not anticipate performing any heavy duty construction anytime soon.
• We will be putting cages in parts of our datacenter for security purposes
• We will be polishing the floors once we are completely out of the construction mode.
• IP Cameras has been installed in different areas of the datacenter.

ELECTRICALS

• The generator is installed, and tested. We were able to successfully perform a full electrical load transfer to our generator successfully without causing any downtime. The transfer time to the generator was 10 seconds.
• We plan to perform semi annual full load transfer to the generator as part of a regular datacenter maintenance practice.
• We plan to fire up the generator weekly in order to ensure the startups procedure are correct.
• We plan to install additional power ducts in our datacenter so that we can readily deliver electricals to the server cabinets.

MECHANICALS

• The installation of the main duct has been completed.
• The CRAC Unit has also been installed and is now fully operational.
• The exhaust fans with dynamic speed and automated control has been installed in order to relieve static pressure in our datacenter.

NETWORKS

• We have completed the deployment of redundant Border/Core/Distribution routing infrastructure in our datacenter. Customers can now request redundant pair of network drops and we can service any kind of redundant routing and switching needs.
• Standby Cold Router has also been prepared in the new datacenter
• We will be delivering additional 10GE connectivity inside our datacenter in the coming month. We hope to be able to provide Multiple 1Gbps Feeds and Full 10Gbps of bandwidth needs in within 1-2 months.

The Crac Unit is now online! We’re taking in lots of free cooling from the cool Seattle weather right now.

The two Exhaust Fan installation has also been completed. The automated static pressure control has been deployed and these fans will rotate automatically with dynamic speed to releave static pressure in the datacenter.

All cabinets has been bolted down and ready to be online.

Cabinets with 1/4 rack, 1/2 rack and 1/6 rack has also been installed in our datacenter.

UPS installation, testing, and monitoring has been completed.

Cabinets are secured to the roof by this 45 degree angle mounting bracket.

First off, we have to apologize for the super late update to this blog. Yes we are still alive and kicking that the project is definitely moving towards the right direction. We have completed the building of our MMR with relay racks and our network is already up and running in the new datacenter. The next big project is the installation of the mechanical equipments including CRAC, vents, Exhaust fans and duct works. We are now waiting for the first phase of mechanical project and electrical to be completed so that we can officially open our door for business!

This is the front appearance of our little Meet Me Room (MMR) where all of our networking gear lives and where all cabling will be terminated inside the datacenter. As you can see we are running fully redundant Cisco routing and switching infrastructure with border, core, distribution and access layers.

This Supervisor 720-3BXL is ready to crank out some serious routing horsepower!

These two huge exhaust fans are the workhorse of the datacenter and will exhaust hot air out of our facility. Our datacenter is engineered to have 80 air exchanges in an hour which means a full air exchange from outside air sucked by our crac units; delivered to these gigantic 70,000 cfm fans!

Shows how big the blade of the fan is. Certainly don’t want to be stuck in there unless you are Criss Angel.

On the first phase of our datacenter buildout, cold air will still be delivered by dropping air directly from our main duct.

The Crac unit has been lifted off the ground and properly installed with this super heavy duty riser.

The building window has been taken out and replaced by these vents that will be mechanically controlled to determine whether or not to deliver outside air into the facility.

10 ton Moving Cooler Unit is currently in production is being used to deliver cold air to our entire datacenter since we are already hosting live customers!

A Lot of stuffs and progress has happened again in the datacenter buildout! We’re certainly excited as we are getting inch closer to our soft opening dates which could be as soon as next week! Some of the progress that has happened since last update are:

1. Our Fire sprinkler system installation has been completed. The Vesda system is in place, the monitoring systems are in place and we are awaiting fire marshall inspection later this week to complete our occupancy permit.

2. We have put up some colo fences in parts of our datacenter

3. The dark fiber run going back to our HQ in Westin Building downtown seattle has been completed

4. The mechanical main duct installation has been completed! Boy was our mechanical contractor super fast and efficient in installing these

5. Our network gears are being setup now as we speak. We will be running fully meshed Cisco powered backbone network with border, core, distribution and access layer.

6. We also have words that our Liebert CRAC Units (HVAC) has arrived 3 weeks early and they are already in town. We are expecting delivery as soon as mid of this week!

7. Yes we are fully energized on the power front. The Transfer switch, main panel, UPS, PDUs and installed electrical outlets are all ready to power up those servers

Did I say that we are excited again?

The Curvy Main power conduit installation has been completed with tons of copper inside them that has been fully energized!

The UPS has also been energized last Friday and already serving power to our PDUs.

All the main power panel installation has been completed. The final product on our phase 1 Installation looks currently looks like this.

Notice the small little white square thingy in the middle of the pic? That is an iPhone to give you an idea of the size of the casing for what would be our exhaust fans. We are putting in big-assed fans in here to suck out all the hot air!

This bad boy was one of the culprit for the delay of our electrical install. However, we hope that having this Kirk Key system installed provide redundant generators support will prove worth it one day.

Since our mechanical permit was issued last week, we have proceeded with the installation of the Main Duct that will tie our HVAC Units. We designed an oversized duct in order to be able to push those air around or datacenter floors.

First colocation fence has been installed. Thanks to the 4 crews that have been working hard over the weekend to get this installed.

208A outlets have been installed to facilitate our networking equipments.

After long wait, the VESDA (Very Early Warning Smoke Detection Solution) system is finally fully installed.

Sprinker communication system is also up and running now.

You sniff? This little hole does! What an amazing environmental monitoring technology!

This bundle of cable is one of the most important milestone in our datacenter buildout. This is our dark fiber connectivity back to the Westin Building that will allow fiber connectivity between our routing equipments. Customer will also be able to get a transport back to the Westin Building MMR, effectively making our datacenter to be a carrier neutral facility.

Yes the CAT generator has been here for 2 weeks now. We are expecting these to be turned up sometime late this week after we have passed the final fire marshall inspection.
